and more… Optional extension |

21 – 26 April 2012 (6 days) |
|
|
DAY 1 – TRAVEL TO
TUSCANY (D) Today we depart Lake Garda and travel
south to our next destination – TUSCANY. we will arrive at our
accommodation in the heart of Tuscany overlooking the Classic Chianti
area. Our base, a typical country style hotel, is surrounded by
beautiful vineyards and olive groves near the tower village of San
Gimignano.
DAY 2
– SAN GIMIGNANO & VOLTERRA (BD) Today takes us to the
enchanting San Gimignano “the city of beautiful towers”. The
extraordinary medieval city once stood tall with 72 towers, symbol of
the lord’s wealth. Now with 14 towers left it is just as impressive as
it once was. Later we will visit the Etruscan settlement of Volterra.
Perched high on a rocky plateau, the town’s well preserved medieval
ramparts give Volterra a forbidding air.
DAY 3 – CHIANTI TOURING & WINE
TASTING (BD) We will spend the day touring this
beautiful region. The Chianti area is renowned for its typically hilly
countryside where different layouts of perfectly aligned rows of
grapevines create different effects of colour and luminosity. Vineyards
alternate with olive groves and, here and there, cypress trees, castles,
farmhouses, old parish churches, villas and gardens. We will visit a
renowned vineyard and enjoy a wine tasting.
DAY 4 – SIENA & MONTERIGGIONI
(BD) Today we will explore Siena, a city built around
the grandiose square Piazza del Campo from which many narrow alleys will
escort you through its ancient rose coloured brick buildings. Admire the
many churches starting with the Duomo, and Casa di Santa Caterina
revealing their medieval history. Siena is without doubt one of Italy’s
most enchanting cities. A visit to the famous walled medieval stronghold
of Monteriggioni will be another highlight of our day. Established in
1203, this fortified bastion is one of the best preserved examples of
its kind in Tuscany.
DAY 5 – CORTONA (BD)
We will spend time in the hillside city of Cortona which offers stunning
views across the Tuscan countryside. It has changed little since the
Middle Ages. Its winding streets lead off the Piazza Grande and around
every corner you will find interesting shops, lovely cafes and typical
restaurants. On a clear day you can see as far as Lake Trasimeno in
Umbria.
DAY 6 –
DEPARTURE (B) Sadly
it is time for farewells. Today our tour comes to an end and you will be
transferred to PISA airport for your journey home or to other
destinations.
